Jr. Advanced Science  2nd-3rd grade

Taught by Miss Angela, our Director of Education and a degreed scientist, this full-year class offers our more advanced students four challenging labs, each culminating in an independent science project. This year’s labs are:

• Session 1 -- Physics/Engineering: Explore car safety features and take the “Egg Drop” challenge -- design a container for an egg that can be dropped without the egg breaking.

• Session 2 -- Earth Science: Explore igneous rocks, magma, volcanoes and earthquakes. Create your own volcano model and invent unique ways to erupt it.

• Session 3 -- Chemistry: Explore the chemistry of food. Start your own food company and create a new ice cream flavor, rock candy, bubble gum, gummy bears and more.

• Session 4 -- Life Science: Explore microbiology. Grow bacteria using nutrient agar and observe the effects of antibiotics and probiotics. Observe microorganisms from ponds. Isolate DNA.

Advanced Science  4rd-5th grade  by application only 

Taught by Miss Angela, our Director of Education and a degreed scientist, this full-year class is designed for kids who have completed our other programs or who can demonstrate similar science proficiency. The curriculum for this year follows the same thematic outline as Jr. Advanced Science, but employs more difficult techniques and places greater emphasis on independent study.
