The Science Problem in America, and What Curiosity Zone Does to Help

From Dr. Joanne Vasquez, a member of the National Science Board:  "[W]hy should we care if six-year olds take science or not? The answer is simple: because future innovations in science, technology, engineering, defense, national security, and a whole lot more could be at stake.

Science instruction has come to a dismal halt or been severely curtailed in far too many elementary classrooms across the United States. . . . [S]cience, like all subjects, requires a developmental building of conceptual understanding that must start in kindergarten. Yet many students reach the intermediate and middle grades with little or no science instruction, and if they receive any, it happened when the teacher could squeeze it in."

Curiosity Zone is a kid-sized science lab for kids ages 2-11.  Our classes build on kids’ natural curiosity, using familiar, fun, hands-on activities to inspire them to think creatively about the world around them, and to lay a foundation for life-long learning in science, math and beyond.  Unlike our competitors, we teach kids to use the scientific method, and connect fun science to actual learning by layering concepts week after week, month after month.  We also teach the sciences as a connected whole (e.g., how physics and chemistry can be applied together to solve a problem), instead of focusing on each separately.  Our full program takes 4 years to complete (though classes can be taken in 10 week segments); kids then graduate to an advanced science program that runs for another 4 years, complete with DNA extractions, dissections and more.

After teaching for 6 years, we have tremendous anecdotal evidence of our success in inspiring and educating young scientists.  Please take a minute to read a few of our unsolicited customer stories.
